About Laos
1 child in 15 will not live to see their 5th birthday in Laos; There are 64 deaths per 1,000 births (The state of the world’s children 2017)
Many years of widespread conflict and poverty have stalled health-care development, and poor infrastructure combined with a mountainous terrain present a constant barrier for children and families to access high-quality health care.

We opened Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) in Laos in 2015, where we provide free medical care in a compassionate environment with the intent to establish a locally sustainable hospital by and for the Lao people. LFHC’s guiding motto is “treat every patient as if your own child.”
OPD, IPD, Neonatal unit, OT and other facilities are available at LFHC and we have treated over ten thousand children in Laos since our inception. We implement our activities and services based on our model, “Treatment, Education and Prevention.” We not only provide medical care, but also teach staff to build sustainable practices in a professional and compassionate environment. Furthermore, LFHC is a teaching hospital where experienced doctors and nurses from several countries spend time as volunteers and serve as trainers and mentors to Lao doctors and nurses. The outreach team designs its programs and activities to assist people who might otherwise not have access to medical services. In addition to delivering medical care to patients in their homes, outreach plays an educational role in raising health awareness and preventing illness in targeted communities, and advocates for providing quality and compassionate care to patients in remote areas.
Five years have passed since the opening of the hospital. The number of patients is climbing due to the increased awareness of the hospital. We have about 30 beds in our inpatient department and are full frequently. The cost of one day of hospitalization and treatment is approximately $50, and if patients need to stay longer, the cost increases, affecting our budget. Please help to fund these children’s stay in hospital so that, with your kindness, we can provide proper medical treatment and save their lives.
