What’s “Any Time New Year” program?
　As Japanese every day lives are westernizing, New years’ celebration is one of the most traditional Japanese ways that still remain.
　Join our “Any Time New Year” program which you can experience the Japanese traditional New Year celebration with cooking and lecture throughout the year!

About "Osechi"

“Osechi” is one of “Washoku” traditional Japanese cuisine. “Washoku” was added to UNESCO’s Intangilbe Cultural Heritage list in 2013.
　“Osechi” is the special traditional cuisine for the New Year’s Day.
　We also call it “osechi-ryori”. Its dishes are packed beautifully in layers of lacquer boxes called “jubako”. The kinds of osechi-ryori dishes prepared at Japanese homes vary from region to region.
Traditionally people finish preparing osechi dishes by New Year’s Eve so that they have food for a couple of days.
　Each dish that makes up osechi-ryori has a special meaning such as good luck, happiness , health, wealthy, long life, good harvest, prosperity, and so on.
　For example, prawns represent long life, kuromame(cooked sweet black beans) mean health, tazukuri(sweet fried sardines) to a good harvest and kurikinton(sweet chestnuts and mashed sweet potato) to happiness.

I am excited to introduce you a new lesson "Character Japanese style Bento" !
Character Bento is very popular among Japanese kids and mothers ,and anime fans.

We make heart shaped rolled-egg, flower shaped egg, sausage acorns, and character's shaped rice balls, and assort them in a Bento box.

It's so "Kawaii"! Too Kawaii to eat and so instagrammable!

First calligraphy of the New Year is called "Kakizome" in Japan.  In Kakizome, we write our new year's resolution or a Chinese charactar, Kanji that represents good  luck, happy meaning and our favorite words.  Why don't you try it with a brush.  It's not difficult. So anyone can do "Kakizome".

OUR TOWN SEKI

Seki is located in the center of Gifu Prefecture.  Gifu is also center of Japan.  Our Town Seki is famous for knives, cutlery, Japanese swords and Oze-Comorant Fishing, which is a traditional fishing method.  We also have the beautiful Nagara river and lots of mountains.
Enjoy Japan's ancient traditional culture and magnificent nature in SEKI.

Your Host

I was born and raised in Seki, Gifu Prefecture. I love English and would like to know the world outside of Japan. When I was a student in my 20s, I studied abroad in Los Angeles, USA and Toronto, Canada.
I really appreciated the people who took care of me at the homestay.
I was able to touch on the warmth of the people I met on the site and live a fulfilling overseas life.  I returned to Japan with a feeling to  welcome foreign people here.
 Currently in local Seki city, ECC English conversation classroom opened. I am also accepting homestay. From June 2017, I obtained a certificate from the Cooking Association for Foreigners.
  I'd love to bring more tourists to Seki city and to show the region that I am from.
