ONER Online Japanese school
Since 2015

This is possible
because
the lessons are completely customized.

 Let's learn in Japanese!

Let's have both light and deep chats in Japanese!

Let's express ourselves in Japanese!

At ONER,
we place the utmost importance on people-to-people relationships.

The most significant thing for us are mutual understandings and learning.

  • Learning Japanese is not our only goal.

Since language is a tool, we can use it for many purposes!
  • I've been teaching Japanese for 20 years and I truly believe so.
  • In ONER we conduct one-on-one lessons.

We will not only help you improve your Japanese language skills
but also be there for you in your daily life.

Five reasons why ONER can make
"in Japanese" a reality

At ONER we learn in Japanese.
Japanese is not our only target.

You will be able to:

1) have a conversation
2) post on SNS
3) write a diary
4) find a job that requires you to speak in Japanese
5) understand how Japanese people think
6) learn about Japanese culture
7) share your future dreams with someone
8) express your thoughts and emotions
9) complain about anything

Everyone is special.
100 people, 100 different things.
We embrace every individual with all of their interests and needs.

Japanese language is just a communication tool.
So in ONER, we emphasize the importance of speaking.

In our school, unlike JLPT,
we have a unique communication-skills test.

We will make sure to check up
on your speaking progress every step of the way!

Based on your needs and goals,
the teachers will adjust their teaching material and content to you.

We will not compare your results to other people's,
but only to your own in the past.

We will do our best to keep you motivated!

A lot of people found
their passion and interests
by taking classes at ONER.

Our student, we will call her A,
is a high-school student from Taiwan
who started learning Japanese with us
when she was a freshman at junior-high.

Recently, she has found her passion!

She is writing a novel in Japanese.

In Taiwan's education,
from junior high-school students need to study hard
and memorize information by heart.

Students are primarily studying for exams
which makes them overwhelmed.

A didn't know what she wants to be in the future
and she felt continuously bored every day.

She found ONER school online
and kept sharing her feelings and anxiety with her ONER teacher.

In time, she spoke Japanese fluently
and started writing a novel in Japanese.

She posted her novel on a website.

The more you improve your Japanese skills
the easier it will be for you to find your interests
and the more enjoyable everyday life you will have.

In Japanese
we have a lot of characters with which we can describe ourselves!

Let's find your ''I'' (character)
with ONER.

わたし(watashi)、あたし(atashi)、ぼく(boku)、 おれ(ore)、
自分(jibun)、 わたくし(watashi)

In English and Chinese,
we have only one pronoun to describe ourselves - ''I''.

But in Japanese we have many varieties.

It's difficult to find your ''I'' in Japanese
if you don't have a professional teacher to guide you through it.

Let's find yours!

We can do it
because we are a team.

Let's make your Japanese studies a part of your every day routine!

The "Team Habit-Building Project" is underway!

Why don't you make learning Japanese a habit with us as a team?

Use 3 words and write one sentence per each word every day.
Read one short Japanese post or text per day.
Post once a day on IG.

Things are done more easily in a group, than on your own!

Lecturers with an abundance of teaching experience, topics, and humor.

Students' impressions

ONER is able to create my lesson plans and choose my materials based on their understanding of my background and motivation for learning Japanese.

After studying once or twice a week, I was able to converse with my teacher, read, and write in my journal, even though I had no basic knowledge of Japanese.
What's even more interesting is that you can use Japanese to post on Instagram.

In every lesson, I learn new vocabulary and grammar.

Also, my teacher gives me various interesting assignments to review every week,
and we revise them together in the next lesson.

If I don't understand something, I can ask questions in the middle of the lesson and the teacher will patiently explain it to me.

Patience, care, and enthusiasm are the reasons why I continue to learn from ONER!

The best thing about the teachers is their passion and experience in teaching,
and their ability to adjust their teaching style according to the student's learning pace.

My teacher lived in Taiwan for a long time and has a very good command of Chinese.
For Chinese-speaking students, this is a valuable opportunity to learn from a Japanese teacher and communicate without barriers.

My lessons with ONER teachers have made me love the Japanese language
and culture even more.

When the coronavirus is over and I am able to go abroad,
I would like to use the Japanese I have learned to travel to Japan and meet my teacher!

Jenny, company employee in her 20s

VOICE-1-

I have wanted to learn Japanese for many years,
and through a friend's introduction, I found ONER.

I was assigned to Ms. Takami, who lives in Tokyo.
She was very kind and supported me from the beginning
as I had a lot of work to do and not much time to review.

She took me step by step through the 50 syllables,
always encouraging me and sharing the current affairs in Japan.

She helped me build my vocabulary and practice my grammar.

In 2018 and 2019, when I traveled to Japan,
there were hotels that I couldn't book online.

I had to book them over the phone.
My teacher helped me to learn Japanese smoothly.

In 2021, I launched an online plant brand.
I was taught how to write simple advertisements,
sentences and explanations Japanese people can understand.

There's still a lot of pressure on me to learn.

As a working, middle-aged person,
I'm not a fast learner, but I want to keep on learning!

VOICE-2-
My name is Shi-chan.

In the lessons with Ayako-sensei,
we can read picture books, fold origami, and draw pictures.

The other day,
I drew a picture, and then I thought of my own story and made a picture book together with my teacher.

I like the lessons with Ayako the most!

VOICE-3-

I've been studying Japanese for almost 8 years due to my job.

I have experience in almost everything
from group lessons at Japanese language schools to private lessons.

I was originally not confident in my conversation skills.

However, in the six months since I joined ONER,
I have not only improved my listening skills, but also learned how to talk with confidence.

The teacher always waits for the students to express what they want to say and corrects their grammar mistakes, which is very helpful.

When I called the Tokyo Metropolitan Taxation Office at work to ask a question,
or when I had a question-and-answer session with a Japanese colleague,
it went much smoother.

I am very grateful to have found ONER.

Frequently Asked Questions

実際の公開ページでは回答部分が閉じた状態で表示されます。
  • Can beginners also apply?

    All levels are available.

We support students who have no experience learning Japanese at all, i.e., from the 0-beginner level.

ONER starts lessons from the 0-beginner level, so that students can start conversing right away.

We offer lessons for all levels of learners, including beginner, intermediate, advanced, business Japanese level, and exam preparation.
  • Which materials do you use?

For beginners, we use ONER original materials.

In each lesson, half of the time we will learn 50 syllables and in the rest we will learn basic conversation.

From the very beginning, you will be able to acquire "immediately usable Japanese".

ONER places a particular emphasis on 'ready-to-use Japanese', in other words, conversational skills.

Therefore, when the original materials are finished and the learner has not specified any particular materials for further learning, we recommend the free online "Irodori Nihongo", which is available online for free at https://www.irodori.jpf.go.jp/index.html.

This is a very good textbook for developing conversation skills.

After that, we use textbooks and teaching materials according to the learner's purpose of learning Japanese and his/her needs.

As the lessons are one-to-one, there is no need to use 'unsuitable materials' or to 'adapt to someone else's level'.

We can also use articles from the internet, recent topics, Twitter and Instagram in our lessons.
  • Can I have lessons to prepare for the JLPT?

    Of course you can!

    You can choose to work through the four categories of vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening comprehension;
as well as past papers and practice tests.

Japanese is a very expressive language, both in terms of vocabulary and grammar.

Grammar, in particular, is full of similarities and differences.
It is very important to know the characteristics and points of each one.

One of the most common things that students do when studying on their own is to use the direct translation in their mother tongue.

Especially in N1 and N2, all grammar is very similar and often the translation in the mother tongue is almost the same.

Therefore, it is important to understand Japanese grammar in Japanese.

Your native Japanese teacher will explain it to you and take you further to the point where you can "use" it!
  • What is the available lesson time for me?

During your free class, we will ask you about your preference in terms of lesson time.

As this is a one-to-one lesson, we will do our best to have a class with you at a time that suits you.
  • Are the lessons in Japanese?

Yes, basically all lessons are conducted in Japanese only.

All of ONER's teachers have a great deal of experience in teaching Japanese.

They have the skills to teach using the "direct method" (teaching Japanese in Japanese),
which is the mainstream method in Japanese language education.

The lessons are your "Japanese time", so we will use it as much as possible.

However, our teachers are able to communicate in English and Chinese,
so if you have any problems during the lesson,or if you need to use a medium language (English or Chinese) to make the lesson run more smoothly you can use them,as well!

During the free consultation, we ask learners what kind of lessons they would like to have.

In the course of this, please let us know if you would like to use a medium language as well.

We'll sit down and discuss what works best for you!
