What is "Seitai" and how does it work?

整体 sei-tai

 [整] SEI ....... conditioning
[体] TAI ............... body

Seitai techniques are based on a combination of traditional Japanese healing therapies. The role of the Seitai practitioner is to examine and treat the body's skeletal frame and muscles in order to eliminate any factors that weaken or obstruct the body's natural healing power.

You will lie down or sit on a futon, fully clothed. The practitioner will work on your whole body, by giving soft pressure from the thumbs, fingers or palms with "KI"(氣)-the body's vital energy-.

A Seitai practitioner must be sensitive to all the subtle differences and changes in the individual body. Therefore, a Seitai treatment is not at all similar to massaging a recipient's body in accordance with a prescribed manual.

輸氣 yuki

[輸/愉] YU … send/delightful
[氣] KI … vital energy

Laying the hands on the body to cure illness is not something that men have thought up; it is an instinctive method of treatment.

In the past and the present, in east and west, men have pressed a tooth that hurts with the hand, and they have pressed the stomach when it hurts.
It is a matter of pressing the body because one believes that this will cure it; it is purely a reflex action.

The spinal column and The pelvis

The human body is supported by the spinal column, or backbone and the pelvis.
The spinal column is comprised of a series of 24 articulated bones called vertebrae. In descending order along the spinal column, the vertebrae are grouped into four sections---cervical vertebrae (7-vertebrae), thoracic vertebrae (12 vertebrae), lumbar vertebrae (5 vertebrae), and sacrum vertebrae (5 fused vertebrae). The ability of the vertebrae to move freely and independently enables the various complex and dynamic movements of the body, such as bending, twisting, and stretching.

As well as providing the chief support for the body and functioning as the central axis of the body's movement, the spinal column encases the spinal cord. The brain and spinal cord make up the central nervous system and a peripheral nervous system branches out from the spinal cord to all other parts of the body. For this reason, an injury to the spinal column usually results in a serious disability, and the movement of the pelvis is connected to it.

My teacher, *Mr. Susumu Ninomiya has discovered the difference between the right and the left pelvis -- the difference in the movement and the meaning of them. Therefore, by observing pelvic and each vertebra condition form, I can easily grasp your health condition.

In Seitai, a practitioner first manually examines the condition of each vertebra and pelvis and then manipulates the specific vertebra or selected points on the muscles on either side of the vertebra to induce a direct effect on the muscle, as well as an indirect effect on the related vertebra and body part.

 *SUSUMU NINOMIYA (1947-2018)
Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. His mother was a Seitai teacher and a practitioner, introducing Susumu to Seitai treatment since his childhood. He has learned the study of the Seitai from Haruchika Noguchi.

Q & A

Q
Is it not painful?

A
No, not at all. We do not move or press your body forcibly.
Q
How long does the treatment take?
A
It takes about 30 min, though it depends on the symptoms of each patient.

Q
How is it different from typical massage?
A
Seitai and Massage are for different purposes.
As well as healing, Seitai is profounder, and it also has an effect of the treatment. We check your spinal column and pelvis, and adjust what is causing you pain or sickness. Sensitive ability is needed for a seitai practitioner. As much as you receive the Seitai treatment, your body improves fundamentally.

Naomi Higashimura

Seitai practitioner.

I studied Seitai under Susumu Ninomiya. Ninomiya Seitai academy.

I'm very interested in naturopathy.
I have had an experience that my son had severe food allergies and atopic dermatitis, but recovered from them by Seitai method. This is because the human body has a power to overcome sickness by itself, without any form of external assistance.
It would be my pleasure to help you with a holistic approach to maintaining a healthy body, by drawing out your natural healing power that a human body possesses.
