What's MIZUHIKI?

Mizuhiki is made from japanese paper called (koyori) which is rolled, hardened into strings and dyed with various colours, Then crafted into beautiful deisigns. These days, you will often see them in gift bags and bento boxes.
the practice dates back to 6th century  japan and was used gifts or celebretory decorations.

About Mizuhiki

History

mizuhiki was first introduced into 6th century japan from china, its said that people tied coloured ribbons on their person and belongings as a defence against bad luck when travelling, this then evolved into the mizuhiki we know today. it is usually given as a gift and still carries the same meaning now as it did then, bringing good luck or for celebrations or even funerals.
sumo wrestlers in japan even used mizuhike to tie the hair into the ceremonial bun before a match, until mizuhiki arrived they used hemp ribbons or braids.
as you can see mizuhiki is a huge part of japanese culture and history and an art form that really shpwcases the beauty and cultural richness of my beautiful country.

Color of meaning

The colors of Mizuhiki are generally red and white and gold and silver, which are considered to be congratulatory colors at weddings. Recently, various types of Mizuhiki have come out, and they are used for design Mizuhiki with accessories and animals and plants as motifs .

Red and white: Used for personal purposes such as year-end gifts, midyear gifts, admissions, and sympathies.

Gold and silver: Used for prestige such as weddings, company relations, awards, etc.

Black and white: Used only for commuting and funerals.

Yellow-white: Used for subsequent events.

Silver Silver: Sogin is sometimes used for new religions unrelated to Mizuhiki's Yin-Yang idea.

Meaning of number

The number of Mizuhiki for wedding celebrations is 10 while the number of Mizuhiki for general celebrations is 5.

This comes from 5 x 2 = 10 and is said to have meanings such as "both families come together" and "joy is piled up".
