Kitamatsuyama Dori

This shopping area is the north entrance of the town from Waseda Dori toward Asagaya station.  It has retro appearance but also lively environment because of nursery and tutoring schools with energetic kids.  You will find the delicious scone shop “Rustica” and mommy friendly bakery “Elephant Kitchen” where the bread baking classes are held.

 Matsuyama Shoutengai

The free market “Yuyake Ichi (or Sunset Market)” and “Nouryo Matsuri (or Summer Festival)” where you can enjoy watermelon cracking are held.  There are attractive shops such as “Penguin Café” where you can enjoy penguin latte art and “gelateria Sincerita” which has a good reputation.

 Shouwakai

I’m Chika Toyoda, a jazz musician living in Asagaya.  My daily life is based on this friendly local shopping area.  I go to hair salon “Rime Coron” for hair coloring, purchase Japanese green tea and dried seaweed at “Rakuzan” and get tasty Japanese sweets at “Kameya Mannendo” by the south exit of Asagaya station.  I love this neighborhood where people say hi each other with warm smiles.

 Shinkoukai

I play jazz music at Nougakuden, Shimeigu shrine every year.  Please come listen to the play at the mystical atmosphere stage.  I spent my young days in Asagaya!  After the stage, I always enjoyed drinking at “Torisho (Yakitori bar)”.

Yosuke Yamashita, pianist

 Star Road Shoutenkai

Star Road is bustling every day until late at night.  The number of jazz clubs is increasing, such as “MANHATTAN”, “STACCATO”, “TEN”, and “KLAVIER”.  Come enjoy Jazz at Star Road!

Icho kouji (Ginkgo Alley) filled with retro atmosphere is always bustling.  “Suzuki-en“ is a charged fishing pond where you can enjoy fishing with reasonable price.  Isn’t it nice to have such a place within 3 minutes from the station?  After the stage at “KLAVIER”, I always enjoy drinking and having delicious food at Icho kouji.  It’s so comfy.

Satsuki Iida, jazz singer

 Shinshinkai

This shopping area is the street from Asagaya station toward Kawakita Hospital.  You will find the coffee shop “Gion” which has a swing inside the shop, “Usagiya” which is famous for Dorayaki as souvenirs, and Japanese tea shop “Rakuzan”.  Please come and visit.

Yoko Oda, jazz singer

 Ichibangai

More than 100 restaurants are crowded in this shopping area.  Recently, it gets more international such as Indian curry, Thai, Persian, Korean and Hawaiian cuisine.  You will enjoy street performances during Asagaya Jazz Street here.

 Pearl Center

It has been 25 years since I came here as a Dixie player.  Peal Center is always fun!

Jack Amano, leader of Dixie Modern Boys

Suzuran Shoutengai

This shopping area is great for music lovers.  The music instrument shop “LAST GUITAR” is the center of this area.  You can enjoy not only street performances but also 9 venues including the variety venues during Asagaya Jazz Street.  It is bustling and fun to walk around as you enjoy delicious restaurants.

This shopping area is along Itsukaichi Kaido (or Street). It has been 6 years since we started Halloween Parade. This year, it will be held at 2:00pm and 4:00pm (twice) on Saturday, October 26.  You can have a homey feel here.  The first prize winner at the Paella Summit “anocado”(Spanish cooking) and the tasty sandwich shop “Yachiyo” and other shops are welcoming you.
