The Fashion to Wear
×
The Mind to Design

In ancient Japan people believed that houses, food, clothing and belongings were related to harmony and soundness of their physical and mental activities. Things made by hand were thought to reflect the mind of those who made them. That’s why traditional Japanese craftsmanship is highly admired even today. Also, it was believed that ancient Japanese letters (yamato kotoba) had power in themselves and the power influenced people’s body and mind. In everyday life they used the power. They wore clothes or things with such letters on them.

【Motif】

Yamato Souzou×Yamato Design expresses a sense of coexistence and codependence invisible to the eye but at the core of nature’s existence, history, power, nurturing and cycle.

It starts out a raindrop.
Then, it becomes a sphere.
Next, it’s a flowing river.
And then, it transforms into waves and light.
It can’t be reasoned or explained; yet, it’s irreplaceable. We are inspired by these elements to design.

Yamato Souzou×Yamato Design

To me, the Japanese word YAMATO represents the combining of many peoples’ craftsmanship and ideas and SOUZOU is something newly designed for the majority.

Furthermore, Souzou and Design are newly designed shapes blended with the majority’s senses.

We’ve chosen clothing - the thing that wraps our minds, bodies, and senses - as our medium to express Yamato and Souzou.

【Style】

We want our pieces to be worn with beautiful clothes from all over the world.
Introducing our flavor of the ancient Japanese aesthetics of Muishiki No Bigaku (Subconscious Aesthetics).

This is a Japanese-style jacket/coat that you can coordinate with anything from slick suits to sexy dresses or formal wear for a special occasion.
This jacket/coat gives you a sense of comfort when you put it on, like draping a feather over your body.When you feel comfortable is when you are the most fashionable.

Kimono sleeves…
give movements more beauty;
make the wearer look classier;
create a pause (for fresh air in flow and movements);
and instill a sense of gracefulness.

They are linked to movements and mind.
*The aesthetic principle of Ma has been practiced in Zen, martial arts, tea ceremonies and painting since ancient times in Japan.

It is through Ma that one realizes that they exist not as an individual, but as a part of all of nature.

【Creation】

Many craftsmen pour their hearts into our clothing, crafting it with warm-heartedness.
Our creations are crafted by minds and hearts filled with passion, warmth, kindness, and attention to detail.
Anyone who wears our clothing will surely be able to feel this.
We believe that both the craftsman and the wearer are a part of the same waves.

◆We use fabrics made from materials from all over Japan. We incorporate traditional Japanese methods to produce both traditional Japanese and Western wear.

◆Our embroidery is done in Kiryuu. Kiryuu’s embroiderers not only employ traditional methods of embroidery, but also constantly inspire one another to develop new methods of embroidery. We are so humbled by watching their bond with threads that we want to share it with everyone in the world.

◆Painting, as mentioned in Motif, was ancient Japanese’s writing and often depicted nature in symbolic forms. Each stroke was delicately combined with a sense of courage, codependence and meditation.

*This is just one jacket/coat, but is a work of art that has turned waves into a bigger existence.

【Dear Customer】

We do not have a magic wand, but we create our clothing by combining peoples’ minds. Its beauty will make us feel overwhelming happiness.
Wearers will experience this overwhelming happiness, too.
We hope our clothing helps you discover a new sense of self.
We value this sense of self.
Everyone involved in our creations does.
We wish you all the happiness in the world. Thank you.

There are many styles of Japanese embroidery. Today there are few embroiderers in Kiryuu who are famous for their Sukajan, which originates from the Japanese name Yokosuka Jumper. Kiryuu is Japan’s Silk Road. Machines increasingly do embroidery, but Sukajan embroiderers continue to work by hand.

This was embroidered in a traditional Japanese method called Teburi which you don’t see much nowadays even in Japan.

This is a representative work of such a style, so that future generations may be inspired to continue this traditional Japanese embroidery.
